Goodbye Facebook, Hello Meta.
After rumors of a name change started swirling last week, Facebook officially announced that it is changing its name to “Meta.”
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement at the annual Connect Conference Thursday.
Zuckerberg said the rebranding of Facebook to Meta is a conscious move to focus on virtual reality hardware.
News sources, however, assert that the renaming is an attempt to distance itself from the infamous ‘Facebook Papers’ wherein a whistleblower disclosed explosive information in an infamous “60 Minutes” interview.

The company categorically denied these claims.
For what it’s worth, though, social media isn’t buying Zuckerberg and the company’s explanation of the rebrand.
