Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies in a retention pond in the Tampa area Sunday found the body of a dead woman.
According to an official news statement from the sheriff’s office, her injuries appear consistent with an alligator attack.
The HCSO’s Underwater Recovery Team confirmed that alligators are known to frequent the retention pond.
The official cause of her death at this point is still not known, pending a statement from the medical examiner’s office.
