James Michael Tyler, the actor who played Gunther across the show ‘Friends’ 10-year run, passed away from cancer.
As Gunther, Tyler played a minor but memorable recurring character on Friends, appearing as a barista at Central Perk, where the characters spent most of their time.
Tyler took part in the recently aired Friends reunion but only appeared via Zoom due to his deteriorating health.
The actor’s cancer was only discovered while he was undergoing a routine physical exam.

Tyler has since publicly urged people to ask for the test at their next checkup, saying he would have had a better chance at survival had it been caught earlier.
His wife, Jennifer Carno, survives Tyler.
