The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has declared nearly two dozen plant and animal species, including the ivory-billed woodpecker, officially extinct.

Experts believe the primary culprit is HUMANS. Factors that lead to the species’ extinction include; pollution, logging, and overdevelopment.

Fish and Wildlife said that the announcement should have been made earlier.

It would have freed up much-needed resources that would have otherwise been utilized for other plant and animal life that have a better chance for recovery.

Since 1975, 54 species have left the endangered list after recovering, including the bald eagle and most humpback whales.
