Jay Pickett, the star of countless soap operas, including General Hospital and Port Charles, died while on a horse as he was preparing to shoot a scene for his latest movie, “Treasure Valley.”

On the movie’s Facebook page, the movie’s director, Travis Mills, wrote that there is no official explanation for his sudden death, but it is possibly from a heart attack.

“We grieve for his family; our hearts are broken,” Mills added.

According to the film’s co-producer, Jim Heffel, “Jay died sitting on a horse, the way of a true cowboy.”

Pickett grew up in Caldwell, Idaho but was born in Spokane, Washinton, in 1961. After graduating with a degree in theater at Boise Stae University, he got his master’s degree in theater from UCLA.

In the 90s, he was a soap opera staple, playing Dr. Chip Lakin on ‘Days of our Lives’ and Frank Scanlon on ‘Port Charles.’

Pickett was survived by his three children and his wife, Elena.
